Internal Link Defined
A hyperlink that is directed to another page on the same domain, as opposed to an external link. They are commonly used to allow users to navigate a website, help spread “link juice” around the site and establish site architecture.

Search engine spiders use links to travel through a website to find and index all of the pages. Having a good internal link structure will help highlight important pages for spiders to index and improve the site’s SEO.
Some important characteristics of a good internal linking structure are:
- Link to important SEO pages using relevant and various anchor texts to tell spiders more about the page.
- Point more links to the most important SEO pages
- It should not take more than 2 clicks to get to any page on the site
